Can you show an outside second story wall?
I love these videos.
Thanks dude! Much appreciated! 👍
I am almost doing this exact roof, but my plan checker is telling me I need a valley beam on the new valley, and that seems crazy. Does that sounds correct? Wouldn't it be a flat 2x8 on the existing roof plywood?
How do you get a sloping 3” drain through 10’ of 2x10 joists.
THANK U :)

Hello where would one buy the concrete footing?
I’ve seen siding look like that from glare on a uv protected window
Here are some questions and answers that might help from one of our viewers. I’m not a plumber and I don’t know much- but, I had a couple thoughts 1) I don’t think you’d need to install clean outs under the lavatory because you can remove the p trap under the sink and clean out that way Answer - 2021 International Plumbing code book Page 7-8 reference number 708.1.6 says basically a removable trap can be used as cleanout. 2)I don’t think you’re ever allowed to reduce the drain line going down stream, so idk if a 4>3” toilet sweep would be acceptable Answer - 2012 International Residential Code Page 657 reference number P3005.1.7 Change in Size The size of the drainage piping shall not be reduced in size in the direction of the flow. A 4-inch by 3-inch (102 mm by 76 mm) water closet connection shall not be considered as a reduction in size. I couldn't find it in the I.P.C. Thanks Greg for all you do! These models are really always awesome
Does a level surface have slope
No.
Yes zero slope
@constructionideas My view is, on a level surface, no matter the length if it has a slope no matter how small it is unlevel or out of level and water at rest proves it.
I’m on a quest to build my 12x10 shed. My dilemma is my foundation. Snow is part of my problem. I was thinking of using 6x6 3-4 of them and 2x6. Any suggestions would be appreciated ❤❤
Sounds great!
what type of pipe is that called. would home depot have that.
galvanized water supply pipe. They don't really use it any more for house plumbing and it might not be available at all home improvement centers.
💯
Thank you soo much for this video! I'm currently in this situation! Perfect solution idea! Again thank you!
You're so welcome!
New or old channel?
The sections that you cut the 'criss cut' how deep did you cut them ? Before inserting wedges
Hi Greg I know you're a lot busier these days. I noticed that there is a plate break in one of the windows. My wife and I are building our own house this summer, planning and learning right now. I was planning on doing breaks AROUND windows, so that I am building a single framed window on the ground, then raising it up as a section. In this you have a break in the middle of a window. Are those easy to do, or is there sometimes more hassle in doing it that way? For doors I plan, again to span the entire door, then cut out the bottom plate (and have the anchors in place on both sides of the door).
Why no mention of the corner without a support?
Check your local building code, in ontario the max hole is 1/4 the depth of joist and 50mm from the top or bottom, very good illustrations and informative video tho!!
1:28 notice that the center beam under the first-floor subfloor is a continuous beam, and not just piers. I have seen structures like this sitting on top of piers without a solid beam from one end to another. Piers like every 3 or 4 foot a part. Now they would have floor joust running the opposite direction, but still, this has nothing to do with a wall running crossways on the 2nd floor.
This caught my interest because I want a very basic home combined with (and with emphasis on) space for my textile and other creations and tools. Not at all interested in a standard 3 BR 2 BA American home. Impossible to find! Thank you!
Good video.
I can't see cutting a hole of that size in the rim joist. That can't be right?
Maybe do a little more research, but it's been done before.
Ha! The inset at 0:34 looks like my house with a 2 foot overhang on all sides. Working on retrofitting ideas now. It’s too big for the ladder type reinforcement so will probably need to add outriggers somehow. Has anyone seen reinforcing this area with steel?
Never mind.i just heard how.lol.use the sheathing.
I like this way.i was taught so many dif ways.but green plates you gotta subtract obviously thats where im confused.what would green plate measurement be?
Great video. Two helpful hints. You have a heat problem mainly because you have an acrylic skylight, they allow tremendous heat gain in the summer and heat loss in the winter. Upgrade to a glass skylight with high performance glass and resolve the problem. The solar heat gain coefficient will improve dramatically. The second tip is to use an operable skylight. In this application you have very high humidity. Bathrooms with a shower add more moisture to the home than any other space. You need to vent that hot moist air outside the home immediately.
Promo`SM 🤦
Nice job reuploading someone eles work
Excellent
Thank you so much 😀
I'm glad I watched this video. I had concerns about nailing my LIB to the top top plate. But now I see that the code must refer to 2 nails at to plate and bottom plate aka mud seal plate.
Glad it helped!
Hey, thanks. My wife will be elated. 😊
😀
professional driveway that is... thanks
Any time!
I’m assuming this is a standard 20x20! What if I wanted to go 24 or 26’ deep? Would those rafters make the span?
I have the same question
I can't provide lumber sizes, because they can be different in your area.

How wide is the rough opening of garage door?

Great video !
Thanks for the visit
Thanks
Hi, i am doing a 6 metre by 5 metre 2 story building/maimai. Can i get away with just wall joists around all 4 sides and then just 6 by 2s along the top? Or will i need something in the centre to support the structure or brace the wall? Cheers
How are the ventilation ducts for HVAC run to the first & second floor? Surely they don't cut holes in the joists?
It will depend on where the forced air unit is located and yes, they cut holes in some of the joist, build drop ceilings and go through closets and other rooms to get the job done.
Considering if the Walls are same height and its a symmetrical roof that is
OSB!!... are you kidding me?? 2 layers of pressure treated 3/4 plywood is the way to go!!
3/4 pressure treated plywood are you kidding me, one inch of stainless steel is the way to go:)

Thanks for this
My pleasure!
